From the number of global blockchain invention patent applications (as of April 17, 2020), seven of the top ten enterprises are from China, especially Alibaba (Alipay) has accumulated 2344, leading the second, third and fourth places by several times. Alibaba (Alipay) blockchain patent applicants mainly include Alibaba Group Holdings Co., Ltd. and Alipay (Hangzhou) Information Technology Co., Ltd. It is reported that most of the blockchain patents of Alibaba (Alipay) come from the Alipay blockchain team. According to the ranking data of the last three years, Alibaba (Alipay) has been the world's No. 1 for three consecutive years. In 2019, the number of blockchain invention patent applications was still growing steadily. On a monthly basis, the number of applications in each month was relatively average.

Tencent's blockchain patents mainly come from Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., and a small part of them come from Tencent cloud computing (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen smart tax Chain Technology Co., Ltd. Tencent's blockchain invention patent applications in 2019 increased in November and December, and reached 441 in December. Ping An China's blockchain patents mainly come from Ping An Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen one account Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. in 2019, the number of blockchain invention patent applications increased relatively steadily every month, with little fluctuation. According to the technical composition of blockchain invention patent application in 2019, Alibaba (Alipay) mainly involves g06q20, g06q40 and g06f21; Tencent mainly involves g06f16, h04l29, g06q40 and other technical fields; Ping An China is mainly involved in g06q40, g06f16, g06f21 and other technical fields.

It can be seen that on the basis of the overall consistency of the patent layout of the top three in the blockchain field, there are differences in individual fields. Alibaba (Alipay)'s blockchain patent application layout focuses on core issues in the commercial field, such as payment, finance, insurance and security. In contrast, Tencent's blockchain layout more reflects its content production and social media business attributes. According to the global and regional distribution of blockchain invention patents in 2019, Alibaba (Alipay) has conducted patent layout in 16 countries, organizations and regions in the world, including China, the United States, Singapore, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, India and Australia; Tencent has conducted patent distribution in 6 countries, organizations and regions in the world, including China, the United States, India and South Korea.

Ping An has conducted patent distribution in 6 countries, organizations and regions in the world, including China, Singapore and Japan. The global layout means that more cost input will be generated in patents, especially the cost increase caused by the proportion of overseas layout and the language required by more countries / regions overseas. It is obvious that Alibaba (Alipay) has a wider global distribution, which may be related to its overseas expansion of blockchain business and its optimistic outlook on the international blockchain market. The top 100 enterprises in the list are mainly from 9 countries and regions, with China accounting for 60%, followed by the United States accounting for 22%, Japan accounting for 6%, South Korea and Germany accounting for 5% and 3% respectively, and Finland, Antigua and Barbuda, Ireland and Sweden accounting for 1% respectively.
