        Blockchain is currently very popular. Many people want to know how blockchain will develop. At the beginning of 1975, MITs computer company launched altair8800 microcomputer based on 8080 chip, which is the first PC (personal computer) in human history. This computer has a microprocessor (CPU) with 8080 chip, so it can run programs on it. However, it must be supported by software before various applications can be built on it. Otherwise, this computer is a pile of scrap iron.
        Why do we need software support? Because if you want to start this microcomputer, you must have software to manage CPU, memory, files, and various hardware related interfaces. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer e-cash payment system. Everything revolves around the realization of point-to-point electronic payment in a distributed environment. Therefore, the original demand of blockchain is to be able to provide: account management, transaction publishing, block packaging, block publishing, consensus reaching, as well as possible bifurcations and incentives of blockchain. Bitcoin achieved this function in 2008, and after 10 years of verification, it still stands.
        Bitcoin is the most original operating system of blockchain. So how did the operating system develop in those days?. In 1975, a company digitalresearch developed the operating system cp/m for the altair8800 microcomputer mentioned above. Then the computer chips were upgraded and developed continuously, which brought a lot of market space to the development of the operating system. Because the operating system and computer chip are inseparable. In 1978, Intel introduced the first 16 bit chip 8086 in history. Soon a company called seattlecomputerproducts (SCP) decided to develop personal computers based on 8086 chips.
        So we need an operating system that can support the computer. Originally, SCP wanted to adopt the cp/m operating system on the altair8800 microcomputer mentioned above, but at this time, cp/m has not completed the upgrade for the 16 bit chip. In terms of design, timpaterson completely cloned the user interface and programming interface of cp/m operating system. This enables applications on cp/m to run directly on qdos. The biggest change he made was the introduction of the fat file system of Microsoft's basic interpreter for qdos. This experience tells us that we can copy boldly, as long as it can be applied to current hardware.
        The current blockchain market is not like this. Then new CPU chips appeared, so new computers will also be produced. In October, 1980, IBM decided to launch a PC based on intel8086 chip. So the new computer needs a matching operating system. The market routine is the same. To this end, IBM went to digitalresearch and asked for authorization to use the cp/m system. However, the agreement was not reached. So IBM went to Microsoft and asked Microsoft to provide it with an operating system. The funniest thing is that Microsoft didn't have operating system products at that time, but BillGates knew that SCP was developing qdos.
        Microsoft paid $25000 to SCP and obtained the qdos license. In 1981, BillGates saw the huge scale of the PC market in the future and decided not to use the license mode, but to buy qdos directly. This cost Microsoft another 50000-70000 dollars. On July 27th, 1981, the agreement was reached. Qdos became the property of Microsoft and its name was officially changed to MS-DOS. Microsoft's explanation of DOS is diskoperatingsystem. Since floppy drives began to become cheap (thanks to Woz), they gradually replaced tape as the main external memory in microcomputer systems, and a large number of operating systems named "Dos" emerged in the whole industry.
        From the late 1970s to 1980s, many "Dos" operating systems appeared. But the technology is often different. Even the "Dos" under the same banner may be two completely different systems. The most typical ones are Apple's appledos and ProDOS. Just like all blockchains are incompatible now. Cross chain? How difficult. I have always believed that cross chain is not the way of development, and comprehensive compatibility is the king. Since 1985, Microsoft and IBM have jointly developed a new operating system called cp-dos, which is called dos5 in some texts. In April, 1987, when cp/dos was released, it was renamed os/2, because IBM hoped that os/2 could promote the sales of its own hardware.
        However, Microsoft and IBM have different interests, and Microsoft pays more attention to their popular windows operating system in the PC compatible market. Finally, os/23.0 developed by Microsoft appeared in the market under the new name of WindowsNT, ending the cooperation with IBM. If the current blockchain is dos1.0 of that year, we can see from history that blockchain will have a long way to go. However, there is great room for development, and unexpected dark horse companies will appear, such as Microsoft in those days.
